Sir Elton John announces second Sunshine Coast show!

Hold onto your oversized glasses, your sequined jackets and prepare to paint the town yellow and pink all over again – Sir Elton John will stage a second show on the Sunshine Coast on March 4!

By popular demand, the legendary singer, pianist and composer will host a second performance at Sunshine Coast Stadium 24 hours after his March 3 concert as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road World Tour.

Tickets for both the March 3 concert and the encore concert on March 4 will go on sale to the general public at www.ticketek.com.au from noon on Tuesday, June 25.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said today’s announcement of a second show had come about due to an extremely strong pre-sale of tickets for the March 3 concert on Tuesday.

“This time last week, we were saying what an incredible once-in-a-lifetime opportunity this is for our community to have one of the world’s most famous and celebrated musical superstars in Sir Elton John coming here to perform live,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Well, now we’re doubly delighted to announce that even more Sunshine Coast residents will have the chance to see Sir Elton perform live in concert for the final time in Queensland and for the second-last time in Australia,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Tuesday’s pre-sale of tickets to the March 3 concert was absolutely overwhelming. As a result, Chugg Entertainment have decided to hold a second Sir Elton John concert 24 hours later on Wednesday March 4, which is great news,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Sir Elton John will be the first international artist to perform at Sunshine Coast Stadium – and to have an encore concert announced before tickets have even gone on sale for the first event just shows how strong the support is here on the Sunshine Coast.

“Council has worked for some time with Sir Elton John’s management and event producers to bring him to Sunshine Coast Stadium and provide our community with the opportunity see him perform live in concert right here,” Mayor Jamieson said.

Promoter and Executive Chairman of Chugg Entertainment Michael Chugg said the Sunshine Coast would be treated to the full Sir Elton experience in both concerts.

“The Sunshine Coast should get ready to welcome one hell of a showman in March next year, as the very first international artist to ever perform at Sunshine Coast Stadium,” Mr Chugg said.

“Demand for these shows has been absolutely incredible. We haven’t had a ticket available in Queensland for months. Everything sold out within days.

“So, we’re encouraging fans to get in quickly as we don’t think tickets will last long once they go on sale.”

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said today’s announcement of a second Sir Elton John concert was further testament to the Sunshine Coast being the premier regional events destination in Australia.

“Earlier this year the National Rugby League put its faith in our region to host a premiership match for the first time, which resulted in a sell-out crowd and rave reviews from the South Sydney Rabbitohs and New Zealand Warriors,” Cr O’Pray said.

“Now we’ve had Chugg Entertainment put its faith in the Sunshine Coast to host one of the highest profile performers on the planet in Sir Elton John and the response has been so strong that they’ve announced a second concert within a week of announcing the first one!

“This is proof that Council’s Sunshine Coast Major Events Strategy is delivering for our region, both for our community and our economy.”

In his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, the songs from Sir Elton John’s legendary 50-year career will be showcased against a backdrop of never-before-seen images and videos, brand new stage production, along with a tour wardrobe designed by Italian fashion house Gucci.

He will be joined by longstanding band members Nigel Olsson on drums (part of Sir Elton’s original three-piece band in 1970), esteemed musical director Davey Johnstone (who first recorded with Sir Elton in 1971 and joined the band a year later) on guitar, virtuoso
Ray Cooper on percussion, Matt Bissonette on bass, John Mahon on percussion, and Kim Bullard on keyboards.

Garnering rave reviews at sell-out shows across North America, Sir Elton John’s curtain call will be the last chance to catch this legendary performer touring in Australia.
